Families welcome publication of Hillsborough Law
We issued a statement welcoming the publication of the legislation which will introduce a legal “Duty of Candour’ on public bodies.
Statement from the Chinook Justice Campaign on Hillsborough Law.
Andy Tobias, speaking on behalf of the Chinook crash families, said: “It is long past time that the Hillsborough Law was put on the Statute Books but we welcome the government’s renewed commitment to it today. We fully support the families of those who died, and the Hillsborough Law campaign, for getting to this momentous day – it is an incredibly hard-fought achievement.
“There is still a long way to go however, and it is disappointing that this government and its predecessors have had to be dragged to this point. We wait to see the publication of the legislation in the Commons, and we will be watching its passage through parliament with a very keen interest.
“We, the families of those killed in the RAF Chinook crash on the Mull of Kintyre, stand full-square behind the Hillsborough families, the nuclear test veterans, the Post Office sub-postmasters, the infected blood victims, and those affected by many other state cover ups, in saying that enough is enough. We need a legal Duty of Candour placed on all public bodies, including the MoD, so that no other family has to suffer for so long and to battle so hard in future to get truth, transparency and justice.”
